Hi all,

Nowadays i randomly tie guylines around my house and there is twine everywhere [Just imagine the sight].Camp craft training is something that i am looking forward to more now because I get this sense of satisfaction idk maybe pride? Whatever it is, i get it when my tent guylines are good and there is good ventilation. So maybe you all are too feeling that way? There is definitely a lot to improve so lets all work together as we persevere together and get into top 5! Lets all try to put in our best efforts to training.

It's after CCC training and I'm supposed to be doing my homework but I'm very sleepy (not sleepy enough to not write this thing ahaha) so here I am taking up space (buy outer space/carry on on itunes) on our blog! 

We stayed back to discuss our CLC proposal and I'm actually kinda (buy she's kinda hot on itunes) excited for it idk ahaha. Anyway I was thinking about it and I think that our squad has been having a lot of disagreements recently? Maybe I'm just reading too much into it, but I really do think that we have been 'arguing'/squabbling more often than not. I know I probably join in most of these squabbles too ((sorry :()) (buy sorry on itunes) ((i'm joking i'll really sorry)) and I've been trying to shut my mouth if it's not a big matter too because I really don't want to fall out (boy) with any of y'all :( ((why is this getting sad ?? sorry)) Sometimes we disagree about small stuff ((e.g. 3D2N or 2D1N)) and it makes us unhappy with the other people who don't share the same thoughts? It makes me kinda sad sometimes and I hope that we can all (time low) put in effort to trash things out if we are unhappy, and also listen to each other more if we have varying opinions. I just hope that we can all be one big family ahahaha ok sorry i think maybe i'm just thinking too much but if you share the same thoughts then let's work together to make everyone in our squad happy and bonded? :))))

ccc training was tiring but damn fun idk flag erect is my new favourite next to evacuation :3 i guess it will all be worthwhile because we are going to gain skills, knowledge, stamina and idk better health from the free mud baths yess come come join us free mudbath every training ahahahah kind of a new environment for most of us becos we have never pitched in such soft ground before and made us realised how much more we still had to learn, about how to peg properly in soft ground etc etc but i heard its not the worst yet but thats ok because we will do this together and make friendship mudpies :D can imagine some of your cringing faces but mud isnt that bad really hee hee :-) good job everybody and hope for many more trainings tgt and theres one more impt thing which is if you havent even finished half of your hw like me, then you better start ahahahah altho i havent either but ehehehhe :P

Campcraft Stuff

(I tried typing this out in the WhatsApp group but it was too long so I decided to post it here instead)

There are a few things that we have to settle (?) for our squad's camp-craft stuff :)

Twine
The same people have always had to purchase/bring/cut the twine which the entire squad uses. Please take initiative to CUT AND BRING any twine you have leftover from last year's AC. Some people did not want to buy more twine (as a squad) because they still have twine leftover from AC. However, not everyone brought their twine to use. 
When we have used all the twine, we can order 30 rolls again from Popular ($3.25/person) and keep them in the squad locker. :)

Camp-craft test
We will be having a camp-craft test in August, and we will need at least 50% to get our camp-craft badge. Everything (except lamp lighting) will be tested. Do study for it and clarify with any of us if you are unsure of anything!

Tent-pitching
Some people are still unsure of some knots, or do not have a sense of urgency, or are unsure of what to do. Put in 101% of your effort - I can guarantee you that it will pay off eventually (whispers 10 minute record). If you are unsure of any knots, you can clarify them with the other 14 of us. We won't bite :D. Do read through the previous blog post about how to pitch the tent (posted before ATC). 
          - Practice all the knots at home and aim to tie them faster and faster!
          - Train your arm power at home when you are free!

Tent Pitching Record

Yesterday was quite a good day for us because we (the lonelies *cue lonely by akon*) managed to beat our tent pitching record! We've come so far since our first tent pitching session in Sec 1 (55 minutes for a tent with poor tension hoho), and I'm sure we can soar to greater heights in the near future! Let's continue working hard, and hopefully achieve 10 minutes for a 4-man tent :D

so on 25th June we went to Crescent Girls School for the inter unit interactive games which is at like redhill aka the other side of the world (this is a hyperbole). anyway, crescent was within walking distance from the mrt but then we didnt know the directions so we basically stalked 2 girls all the way HAHAHAH they probably noticed tho bc we were damn obvious "eh guys faster they disappearing liao" . When we reached there, we were actually early (sort of) but several other schools were already there which was quite unexpected idk but there were also a few schools that were vvv late and ended up delaying the whole schedule otl but i appreciate that the crescent girls were trying to keep everyone entertained by telling lame jokes HAHAH our group ic was rly friendly too huehue. anw the first round of games was some fighting one HAHAH idk pls do not judge and we were cheering damn hard bc cheering gives you points lel AND THEN VAL HAS THIS V COOL WII HACK HAHAH LIKE OTHER PEOPLE CANNOT ATTACK YOU this is v cool im sorry yep so my team got into the second round but the other team didnt so they went to play some random games at the field. Second round was table tennis yes i cant serve HAHAH WHISPERS VAL IS ALSO A FUTURE (virtual) TABLE TENNIS PLAYER im srs she won like almost every round even against guys HAHA damn cool ok. and then we got into the finals which was like kinect(?) ive never played it in my entire life AHAH jk i have no life so we were like being damn noob HAHHAHA controlling the screen is v hard i swear. it was quite sad that we didnt win bUT i think we all gave our best so theres really nothing i regret. it was also a new experience HAHA wii and kinect yes its not bad considering some of us are first timers hue we also got to interact with the other schools yas zhonghua was there guys hohoho and get to hear about other peoples np journey. overall it was just v fun (oH GOD MY VOCAB IS)

I am just copying my reflection because i want to say the same thing

I definitely know that I am not one of the best cadets in my unit. It really took a lot of courage for me to go for ATC. I could really feel my hands shaking when the CIs kept knocking us down. There was once during the camp, I was fidgeting because there was a insect on my neck , a Sir asked me if there was a insect I was very nervous and said no and then he scolded me. He said"the rest not sweating is it?" I said no. I was so nervous. A lot of things about camp was surprising. Of course I was delighted to have a squad mate with me. But my group mates were quite nice. They were pretty clueless during tent pitching. I felt a bit mean when I exchanged looks with Valerie during tent pitching because my group mates did not know what to d I heard Hestia saying "you be upright ok?" Then the other schools were like"what is that?" It was quite a pressurizing situation because the CIs from our school were watching and I knew that we have give our 101% of effort. During meal times and all it was quite ok because the boys wanted to cook(weird) and then they gave us (5 girls) food to eat then we just gave them the leftovers(3/4 of what they gave us)and they finished it in like 2 minutes. Also i am sort of an acquaintance with a boy from Maris Stella and ok with the girls. The activities were once in a lifetime experience which one can only experience there(especially kayaking) and i am glad i had that opportunity. When we all finally gathered as an unit at the end of ATC, I was so happy, i really cannot explain it through words, i could feel a wave of emotions flooding me, it made me prideful, happy, relieved and everything. I am glad I went for ATC, I realized that people are not really what they seem to be, it can in a good way or a bad way.Now i feel more accomplished as a NPCC cadet after going through the ‘actual’ NP. I remember the night before ATC, Rachel had sent an encouraging message to the squad, one phrase lingers in my head; “whatever you are going through,just remember all of us are going through the same thing” this really kept me going especially during morning PT. I have always thought that people from other school will be very bad and all but they were fine. After all learning to accept others differences is what makes one mature and I have through ATC.

ATC 2015

I was quite dreading atc at first, but now that im back, i actually miss it. HAHA
It was raining when we got there and our np tees were wet and then after that was the group allocation and stuff and we started tent pitching. I thought we were going to be very rushed but my group ended up finish pitching our tent quite fast. Then came dinner and it was the only time i ate maggi. Second day was lrc, kayaking and pioneering. But before that we had morning pt. I guess our resilience is very important for this one. Low ropes were quite fun although maze a bit dark ahaha. Kayaking was okay but my arms were very tired i think i need apt. I did almost nothing for pioneering other than to practice my lashings. Then there was campfire and i was actually excited for it hurhur. But we were sort of disconnected from the circle during the friendship dance haha (how did we still manage to do it quite cool). I think the last day was the best because we took so much initiative and volunteered a lot!!
I have learnt a lot through atc, made new friends and definitely learnt to treasure hestia. Even though we got knocked down quite a few times, each time we've learnt to respect our CIs, give our fullest attention, not leave our area mates alone and to have a sense of urgency.
Still quite tired after sleeping for 15 hours straight ahaha but good job hestia we made through atc :-)

Last olympian

Hestia is zeus oldest sister. we are wiser than zeus himslf. but most importantly , we are the last olympian. we are the most important. we must uphold the legacy :)

Heart-felt Words

I shall tell you all something interesting. Yesterday when I was watching the movie, Pitch Perfect 2, I saw how united and how much the Bellas had to go through to gain the trust and liking of the world. Not to be a spoiler, but they really put in so much effort, to climb to the top, and no matter how bumpy the road to success was, they stuck together through thick or thin, and gave each other the support they needed. That was when I thought of Hestia. I proudly told my sister in the middle of the movie: "That's what my squad's like."

Hestia, remember the time when we knew nobody, and we had totally zero cooperation with each other? Ma'ams were fed up with us, our standard only rose like an anomaly; we never actually had a good training that proved our worth. But now, look at what we are like? We can all comfortable wrap our arms around each other, literally and figuratively lean on each other and never having to worry about our squadmates letting us go. 

Honestly speaking, I believe many of us thought that parade was tough and dreaded to go for it, but because we had to meet various requirements, we just pulled ourselves through it. We are not that familiar with anyone there, and we frequently think, "what if I'm the only that does this?"  We keep looking at the time, thinking: is it time to go back yet? But now, is it still this way?

We may have a thousand and one reason to dread parade, and another hundred to hate Cedar NP, but there will always be one reason that makes us never want to leave this happy torment. And the reason is you and me. 

After 1 and a half years, no one will believe you if you said Hestia has not bonded. Every single one of us, played a part in making today's improvement and accomplishment happen. Every single one of us, play a part in encouraging the squad. Every single one of us, played a part in making no one feel she is nobody. 

Perhaps some of you still remember that moment when I thought the affinity between Hestia and me was over. Frankly speaking, I was at the brink of tears when parade ended that day. I could not even bear to face you all and say a proper goodbye before leaving the school. When I finally reached my dad's car, I lost it. It was not just my passion for NPCC that was making me that upset. It was the thought of separating with you guys forever. When I got home, my phone was full of assuring messages by you all. 

"Don't worry, we'll fight for you."

"We will make sure you stay"

"Don't lose hope"

It was then I realised, the impact of being bonded with your squad can be very strong. 

Hestia, this is how strong our ties have become. We are willing to step up to keep our squadmate from going; willing to do whatever it takes to make sure no one gets left behind. This does not need to be said; we all know this, deep down in our heart.

Now, remember the lost NP glory? It is now our turn, to show others our worth. This ATC, which is just 2 days later, are we all gonna put in our best, or just go with the flow? Are we gonna wait for other people to take initiatives, or be the ever spontaneous volunteers?

Remember, no one is alone. Whoever takes the first step, you have the whole squad behind your back. Who cares about embarrassment when you know you'll forever have 14 people supporting you? Don't be afraid to take the first step. Remember what we've been through together; we'll leave no one behind no matter what.

Camp Craft: Tent Pitching (Step-by-step)

Hi guys! 

Since ATC is in two days (and I have nothing much to do), I figured I would post something to hopefully help everyone pitch the tent better and also clarify some doubts. Hope this helps!

1. Assembling the skeleton

• The two uprights should align the two vertical poles on both ends of the horizontal pole. Make sure that they are very straight (help each other check if necessary). 
• Place your foot at the end of the vertical pole perpendicular to it. Make sure the peg is facing the center of the skeleton and start pegging!
• When the two uprights are done pegging, bring up the vertical pole so that it is perpendicular to the ground. (Ensure that the base of the vertical pole stays in the same position.)
• Lift up the horizontal pole and slot it onto the two vertical poles.
• While waiting for the uprights to assemble the skeleton, the other group members  should tie the bowlines for all 6 rings of the inner sheet.
• One team member should quickly distribute the pegs for all four corners and give the 3-meter twines to the uprights.

2. Securing the inner sheet

• When the uprights have assembled the skeleton, place the inner sheet over it and slot the two holes at the end over the top of the vertical poles.
• Those doing the four corners should quickly position themselves at the opposite ends of the inner sheet and get ready to pull and measure.
• Uprights should command "2/4 corners ready" (four corners to reply "ready") and "1, 2, pull". Uprights should check the tension of the inner sheet and tell those who are pulling if the tension is good or if they should pull more.
• When the tension on both sides is good, uprights should command "2/4 corners measure".
• Those doing the four corners should immediately place their elbow on the ground directly under the ring of the inner sheet, and use two pegs to measure one length parallel to the tent and one length away from the tent, placing both pegs at a 90 degree angle. They should proceed to peg a peg at the point measured, checking to make sure that it is facing the center of the tent.
• When they are ready, they should roughly gauge the amount of twine needed and tie a tight and small slipknot around the center of the twine at that corner and wrap the free end of the twine around and peg and pull it through the slipknot.
• Uprights should continuously command "2/4 corners ready" to check if those doing the four corners are ready to pull the inner sheet.
• When those doing the four corners reply "ready", the uprights should command "1, 2, pull" and check if the tension is good or not (and tell those doing the four corners if they should pull more). Also make sure that there is a six-inch gap between the inner sheet and the ground.
• When the tension on both sides is good, the uprights should command "1, 2, secure".
• Those doing the four corners should proceed to tie three or four half hitches above the slipknot and secure the guyline with a butterfly knot.
• When the four corner pegs are ready, the other team members can align the middle pegs with the corner pegs and peg them towards the center of the tent. They should then repeat the steps above to pull and secure the twine around the middle pegs.
• While waiting for those doing the four corners to prepare, the uprights should tie a clove hitch around the top of the vertical pole using the 3-meter twine.
• Repeat the steps above for the remaining corners if there are only 2 people doing the four corners.

3. Securing the outer sheet

• The steps are similar to those needed for the inner sheet. However, there will be two more team members helping out since the uprights are not needed any longer. 
• Pull and secure the four corners (commands will be given by either one or both of those doing the four corners)

4. Things to do when you are free (don't give eye power)

• Lay the ground sheet
• Tie all four flaps
• Cut excess twine
• Pull the twine upwards one the peg

5. How to un-pitch the tent

•  (Two uprights should make sure that the vertical pole is held upright while the other team members cut the twine and remove the pegs.)
• When all the pegs and twine are removed, fold the inner sheet, outer sheet and ground sheet:
• Inner sheet: 
1. Untie all the flaps.
2. With the reflective side facing up, fold in the four large triangles.
3. Make sure that the black ribbons are hidden in the inner sheet.
4. Fold in the two rectangular flaps at the sides.
5. Fold in the two ends of the sheet towards the center (but do not cover the triangles).
6. Fold in the two ends again.
7. Fold one end over the other.
8. Fold the shorter ends towards the center.
9. Fold one of the shorter end over the other.
10. Completed!
• Outer sheet: 
• Steps 2, 5-10 for the inner sheet
• Ground sheet:
• Steps 2, 5-10 for the inner sheet
• If there is nothing else to do, arrange the pegs neatly and pick up all used twine to throw away.

6. Knots you should know

• Bowline (15-40 seconds/knot)
• Clove Hitch (5-15 seconds/knot: Micky Mouse Method)
• Guyline (20-50 seconds each)
• Slipknot (5-10 seconds/knot)
• Half-hitch (2-8 seconds/knot)
• Butterfly knot (8-15 seconds/knot)
• Practice whenever you are free!

I realised that for my whole life since I was young, it has been filled with chances and opportunities for me and those ard me to shine. Lik so far, my primary school classes have been given the chance to start a school exchange programme with the kids in Thailand and work with MediaCorp to learn abt journalism. N then now, in secondary school, our squad is given the chance to change NP in bring back the glory. (PLS RMB TO KEEP IN MIND OF THE PAST N OUR GOALS. DO NOT, N I MEAN DO NOT, FORGET BOUT THEM!!!!) So yea, we r gonna rock everyone's world n let them see tt cedar NP is still there. It's just tt we were finding the footsteps back to the glory juz to fit into the modern world. All things change and change is really necessary. But as long as we keep up the standard, everything is still right. (I'm using geog) Let's go all the way guys!!! Don't ever freaking lose hope!!! Cuz we r a squad and a unit n we hv others who also look up to us.

Stressed... Dying... Sleepy... Pissed... PMSing -_-

As you know from the title, im stressed n losing the will to study for the freaking exams which holds no meaning other than a useless paper qualification which everyone thinks will help them to succeed in life. Pfft. That thinking is what kills everyone.

Paper qualification holds nothing. It's just a paper saying how good your brain is. But everyone is strong in different stuff. I mean someone can love arts and suck in the logical department. So their grades will of course suck. And what happens to that person? O right, he/she has to stay back for a year.

I used to and still think that learning is fun. But could you please not give us exams??? It kills the joy of learning. Because of exams, people hate learning. People stress themselves. I actually thought that students are able to sleep earlier than adults when i was young. But after reaching this age, I realized that what I thought is very different. Students actualy sleep less than adults. We stress on so many things; exams, homework, relationships, cca, time management, results, etc.

I know that people, especially adults will argue that we dont plan out time properly. That is indead our fault. But will planning help us? Some yes, some no. To say the truth, i cant plan my time. I will feel so stress and trapped when i have to follow a time table just to finish my homework. I will actually end up not focusing at all. So is planning a time table really that effective?

Aish all these stress is going to make me have an early death. *sighs* im going to sleep now. Next time i might have something nicer to say.

Its not wrong to state your opinions ya but at the very least phrase it nicely bEcause people are saying our squad isnt bonded because of this issue. Remember the times when our chats were so much fun and damn funny (if you dont then go scroll up ok) but now its just tensiontensiontension. Even if we dont say it out loud, its quite evident that theres tension in the squad because of thAt matter. so ya i just hope yall can be nicer when voicing out your thoughts thanks
on a side note goodluck for common tests!!

Bonding

Hey guys, so the last few parades, the Ma'ams have always been directly and or indirectly saying that our squad is not bonded, and that it caused some of the unhappy incidence in our squad that happened recently. I dare not say they are right or wrong, because to some extent, each and every single Hestian, may mot exactly be really bonded with the squad. True to the fact that with such a big squad, we may have formed cliques that are comfortable with each other, but not as a squad. It is understandable that it may be hard to have a 18-people clique, but I belive, that with the effort and determination we've and will be putting in, we can make it happen.
Hestia: The Goddess of Hearth; home; earth. To live up to our name, we all got to treat each other as family, because together we are Hestia, together we are home. We may have some things that we are unhappy about, and we should not just keep them to ourselves, because as a squad, we should all share each other's pain, sorrow, happiness, anger, and all. So if we wanna complain, we complain like queens together. If we wanna laugh, we laugh like siao together. If we wanna cry, we all cry like babies together. Okay? Okay.
We should not despise any single one of us, and neither should we leave anyone out, it is pretty obvious that we've been trying harder and putting in more effort compared to the past, and yes, we are achieving our goal soon. Let's work harder, bond more. We share the same pain in NP, experience the same joy, share the happiness and hardships together.
I feel like I'm talking about stuff that don't link smoothly, pardon my poor sentence structures. Anyways, let's just bond more okay? Oh and let's just do every thing together, like literally everything. Love you all Hestia ♥♥♥

HAPPY BIRTHDAY US

HAHAHA I'm a day late but still... it's the thought that counts... i think ;) Yeah so since I don't have an instagram account and I can't make a dedi, so I'll just post something here cos anyway I haven't posted for a 1000 years liao. Yeah so HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVERYONE!!! It's been a year since we last met and I can still remember the awkwardness ahaha. You all have been really awesome squad mates and I really can't ask for any other people better. Through the last 12 months we have went through so much together: hard times, suffering(hahaha) but at the same time really fun and happy times! Contrary to popular belief (coughs) I feel that our squad may not be as bonded like xiao, but good enough and I have really grown much closer to all of you XD. I think that all of you are really nice people with whom I have shared many good times with joking around.

I hope that we can look forward to the times we are gonna have together and stick through THICK AND THIN! I hope I can become even closer friends with all of you (which I think we all will) and work better together as a squad. There were many miscommunications last year  (The sunz down there mentioned) but I believe that this year will be a much better year for everyone and let's continue striving for the best together! Also, let's all work much harder as a squad and improve our standard, enthu-ness and all the other stuff ok?

This year, we may be losing some of our squad mates and our numbers may be decreasing but I'll always remember this past year I had with all of you, awkward moments and all and I'm really amazed at how far we have already come!

So once again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY HESTIA and I wish us many other happy birthdays to come...
