How do we measure time? By the second, by the hours? Or by the months, by years?
It's March, nearly April, and I can't believe three months have gone by just like that, with just a light touch and a whisper, Poof.
When we were younger cadets, we were told of the importance of sense of urgency, scolded, reprimanded till it was drilled into our brains to do everything quickly without wasting time. But why? What's the rationale behind doing things so quickly when you think about it, we have 2 and a 1/2 hours each week. 4 - 5 times a month. 53 times a year.
But it's precisely because of that, precisely because time is COUNTABLE and not infinite, that we should treasure it. 53 parades may seem like an endlessly long time, but a few seconds wasted in stony silence, a few minutes past the deadline, can stretch into hours when all linked up from one end to the other.
We emphasise on the importance of sense of urgency, because there is so much to do and learnt in all that time wasted. Perhaps it is only when we took over, that we truly appreciated the meaning of sense of urgency. Every moment wasted is a future thrown down a gutter, because within that moment you could have done so much more, could have reached a higher potential.
Now we are nearing the end of our 53x3x2 1/2 + 4x2 1/2x4 hours, and it's hard to believe such a long period of time can be so shockingly short. Some of those hours we've wasted, definitely, thinking we had all the time in the world. Some had been made use of, every precious minute of it, meaningfully and thoughtfully.
We used to have years: Secondary One, Secondary Two, Secondary Three, Secondary Four. But now we find ourselves desperately clinging onto seconds, milliseconds. . .
What are y'all waiting for, get moving cadets ;)
